“In relationships, you want to be secure but not know what’s coming next. Everyone has to have secrets, but if I’m asked a question, I’ll answer honestly.”

Jay-Z new ROCAWEAR Commerial

MUSIC ICON, JAY-Z APPEARS IN FIRST EVER TELEVSION COMMERCIAL FOR ROCAWEAR

COMMERCIAL TO DEBUT DURING NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Iconix Brand Group, Inc. and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter unveiled today the highly anticipated Rocawear television commercial featuring the music icon himself in the brand’s new Spring 2012 campaign. This marks the first television commercial in the brand’s history.

The 30-second commercial will debut during the NCAA championship game on Monday, April 2nd on CBS in top markets, followed by the national premiere of the 90-second commercial on BET’s, hit show, “106 & Park” on Tuesday, April 3rd.

The commercial titled, “Marcy to Barclays,” is a retrospective of Jay-Z’s ascent to cultural icon status and an account of Rocawear’s evolution into the global lifestyle brand it is today. The creative tells the story of Jay and Rocawear taking the world by storm, depicting a younger, Jay-Z selling CDs out of the trunk of his car in the Marcy projects and ending with Jay-Z performing to a sold out crowd in one of the world’s biggest arenas.

“Rocawear just keeps reinventing and redefining itself every single day,” commented Jay-Z. “My goal was to have one gold album and that was it, then it was I want to show that an artist can ascend to the executive ranks,” added Jay-Z.

The Barclays Arena will be home to the Brooklyn-bound Nets, of which Jay-Z is a partial owner making his journey that much more historic, and sparking the title “From Marcy to Barclays.” Jay-Z will kick off the opening of Barclays Arena with a string of sold-out concerts starting September 28, 2012.

The Recap: March Edition of FASHION UNFOLD

Hello friends! We had a great time on this month’s edition of FASHION UNFOLD! This month’s topic was Fashion Shows & Stars Power, The Front Row. The discussion revolved around participants addressing whether Celebrities should be paid to attend Fashion shows or not, and how it all plays out for all parties involved (Fashion houses, celebrities and the masses). I enjoyed the discussion/debate very much! It is ALWAYS a pleasure to voice differences of opinions with other passionate people in fashion that share educated views. It was great!

Chris Brown has always been among my celebrity-style admiration’s but I must say he has outdone himself with the promo for the FORTUNE album. This almost takes me back to my days as a teenager wanting a poster to put on my wall! LOL not quite but two thumbs up to the style team for a job well done. I’m pleased! So who is ready for the premiere of STYLED BY JUNE on VH1 with stylist to the stars, June Ambrose!?! I am definitely excited…every time I watch the supertrailer I get pulled in deeper and deeper lol. This show seems to go beyond the norm and give insight into another ‘dimension’ of the styling industry. Check out the trailer…I’d love to know your thoughts!

The fashion-version of American Idol…

Who’s ready for NBC Fashion Star?? I am! Among all the hype surrounding the premiere of this new show WWD reports today that it can be expected to be ‘the fashion-version’ of American Idol. Personally, I’ve been bored with American Idol for quite some time but this seems right down my street! Will you be watching?

NBC kicks off the new year with the new reality competition series “Fashion Star,” which will search for the next big brand in fashion. Featuring host and executive producer Elle Macpherson along with celebrity mentors Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos, the series will give 14 unknown designers the chance to win a multi-million dollar prize to launch their collections in three of America’s largest retailers: Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Each week, the show will begin with an exhilarating fashion show unlike anything seen before featuring musical performances, dancers and models in front of a studio audience. Every fashion show will be built around a weekly challenge that is designed to further develop and expand the designers’ brands.

The series will feature clothes designed for America to buy, and it has enlisted three of the world’s top retailers to help in the decision-making process. Caprice Willard (Macy’s), Terron E. Schaefer (Saks Fifth Avenue) and Nicole Christie (H&M) will serve as the judges who make on-the-spot decisions as they vie for the right to purchase and exclusively carry the work of the up-and-coming designers each week.

At the end of each episode, America will have the chance to immediately purchase the winning designs showcased on the episode that week. What viewers see on TV that night will be on the streets and in stores immediately. With just a single trip down the runway, “Fashion Star” will change the lives and fortunes of these aspiring designers forever.

Each week, designers who do not sell any of their items to the buyers will be up for elimination. In addition, celebrity mentors Simpson, Richie and Varvatos will be able to save one of these designers from the chopping block.

The fashion designers featured on the show will include everyone from the stay-at-home mom who makes her own clothes to sell at the local community market to the recent design school graduate who has held jobs with major design houses to an engineer who became a self-taught designer. Many of the contestants will come to the competition with their own existing lines and will be challenged to take their brand to the next level. All the contestants will be put to the test to see how they react in a variety of real-world scenarios to determine who has the vision and desire to build a fashion empire and achieve his or her dream. With top experts as their guides and mentors throughout the process, designers will have to be as adept in the business of fashion as they are in their creativity as it’s up to them to make their brand a national reality.

In the end, one designer will successfully combine fashion and business to become the next Fashion Star and will receive the prize of a lifetime – $6,000,000 in orders for capsule collections in Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue stores.
